The Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA) is an international non-profit association bringing together scientific publishers and organisations involved in the scientific publishing process. Its aim is to promote and support open access as the predominant publishing model for scientific work. By participating in OASPA, Episciences aims to promote Diamond Open Access publishing within the organisation and across the sector as a whole, and to highlight its publishing approach based on the overlay journal model.
International recognition and credibility
Joining OASPA helps to position Episciences as a legitimate and trusted player within the open access publishing ecosystem.
Episciences wishes to be part of international networks that champion more ethical scientific publishing, such as the COPE initiative, and that contribute to the sustainability of open science infrastructure (such as SCOSS).
Involvement in OASPA reinforces this area of focus for the platform. The discussions taking place within the OASPA community enable us not only to keep track of the state of the debates and members’ concerns, but also to play an active part in the deliberations on these issues.
Collaborations and partnerships
Meetings and working groups within the network provide opportunities to exchange best practice and develop publishing standards. Whilst contributing to the progress of the work – particularly in relation to the Diamond model, interoperability and publishing formats – Episciences will have access to technical resources and will be able to explore potential collaborations, for example to enhance the tools made available to our journals.
Visibility and promotion
As an alliance of important stakeholders in open access, OASPA advocates to institutions and funding agencies for fair, sustainable and non-commercial models, which are in line with the platform’s interests. Participation in the OASPA community enables Episciences to join the movement, and at the same time provides tools and channels of communication that enhance the impact of Episciences’ efforts to promote the Diamond and overlay models.
To mark its entry into the network, Episciences is taking part in the annual conference, which will be held in Zagreb from 21 to 23 September.
