CIRAD is the French agricultural research and cooperation organization working for the sustainable development of tropical and Mediterranean regions.

In 2006, CIRAD wrote the principle of Open Access in its institutionnal plan. Research teams are encouraged to share their scientific results as openly as possible. Support staff guides them with a set of products and services fitted to institutionnal needs.

The website Sharing knowledge in sciences: CIRAD open access portal summarises the committment of CIRAD to open science. It gathers and give access to open platforms of publications and research data produced by CIRAD and its partners.

Agritop, the institutional archive for Cirad publications created in 1986, and HAL-Cirad, the CIRAD deposit interface on national open archive for French higher education and research establishments scientific documents, HAL, are two of these platforms. CIRAD has been a partner of HAL since 2006.
