CCSD: publication of the 2024 activity report

Written by Agnès Magron

The achievements of 2024 confirm the essential role of the CCSD and its HAL+ infrastructure in the open science ecosystem. The Annual Activity Report details the many actions and significant progress made in its mission to promote open, public, responsible and sustainable scientific publishing. Three key points are highlighted: HAL Formation, the new space entirely dedicated to training, which demonstrates the desire to support researchers and HAL teams within institutions more effectively; the international impact of Episciences thanks to the support of the Global Sustainability Coalition for Open Science Services (SCOSS), which enables the development of crowdfunding; and the operational implementation in HAL and Episciences of the linking of publications, data and source codes to facilitate their access, visibility and use.

About HAL

167 751 new deposits with file in 2024 (146 704 in 2023). 11 791 fichiers has been imported via the suggestion service (which represents around 7% of the total).

HAL deposits in 2024: distribution per months

The dynamic of mutualisation in higher education and research continues with the creation of four new HAL portals in 2024 for the Académie des Sciences, the Université catholique de Lyon, the ICN Business School and the École Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique et d’Aérotechnique. There are now 152 institutional portals.

About Sciencesconf

2,539 new conferences were created in 2024 and more than 84,000 papers were submitted. The year was marked by a change in the paper submission form: ORCID is now taken into account and a new feature allows the submitter to choose automatic transfer of their text to HAL. The transfer takes place at the end of the conference.

About Episciences

In 2024, seven new scholarly journals were added to the platform, bringing the total number of journals to 37:

Breakdown of the journals by scientific field: Social sciences and Humanities (12) ; Informatics and applied mathematics (11) ; Mathematics (9) ; Biomechanics (1) ; Environment (1) ; Mechanical engineering (1) ; Physics (1) ; Health Sciences (1)

The Equipex+ HALiance project

The activity report also takes stock of the third year of the HALiance project in 2024. Highlights include the delivery of the first screens resulting from the code migration, the implementation of a new system of relationships linking publications, datasets and software, and the submission of the report for CoreTrustSeal certification. This certification was officially awarded in February 2025: it certifies that HAL is a data warehouse that meets high standards of reliability, accessibility and long-term preservation.
