The 2025 edition of the Open Science Fair (OSFair) was held at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, and brought together 375 participants from 46 countries. Organized every two years by OpenAIRE, the event had previously taken place in Madrid in 2023. The CCSD was represented by its Director, Nathalie Fargier, and Delphine Crubellier, International Development and Promotion Officer for Episciences.
“Fusing Forces – Accelerating Open Science through Collaboration”
The 2025 edition aimed to explore how collaboration can accelerate discovery, improve knowledge accessibility and promote a more transparent and equitable research ecosystem. The event was notable for its excellent organisation and the diversity of its session formats. Five main themes were explored across five formats, ranging from panels and presentations to workshops and poster sessions. These formats encouraged direct exchange, striking a balance between in-depth discussions and networking opportunities.
HAL and Episciences Represented
Nathalie Fargier took part in a panel on open repositories, “Repository Reimagined: the Impact REPO Project,” alongside Nicola Tarocco (CERN) and Eloy Rodrigues (University of Minho – Zenodo), moderated by Kathleen Shearer from COAR.

IMPACT-REPO is a plan that aims to promote the essential role of open access repositories within the European research landscape. It defines four key areas in which repositories can contribute: strengthening the impact of research, promoting inclusion, building trust, and supporting innovation.
The discussions emphasised that HAL is a reliable platform that combines technical performance with high-quality services for disseminating scientific information.
As for Episciences, participating in the Open Science Fair aimed to identify new partners.
Focus on researcher evaluation
Among the key themes, researcher evaluation occupied a central place. This is directly linked to current discussions within the CCSD and the HAL Partners’ Assembly. It will also be the main focus of the scientific day organised by the CCSD as part of the Partners’ Assembly’s annual session on 13 November (Program).
The 2025 edition of the Open Science Fair enabled the CCSD to identify new partners and strengthen its European collaborations, while also prompting consideration of future joint projects.
