Run by the CCSD, the HAL Ambassadors Program brings together volunteer researchers who wish to contribute to the development of HAL. Working closely with the CCSD team, the volunteers participate in the co-construction of the platform, share their experiences, and help to disseminate open science principles within scientific communities.
The program is based on exchange and volunteering, and adapts to a variety of profiles and availabilities. It provides a privileged, friendly space for dialogue between the CCSD and the scientific community, encouraging collective reflection on HAL’s practices, requirements and developments.
Who is it for?
The HAL Ambassador Program is aimed at researchers and doctoral students from all disciplines who are committed to the principles of open science.
As regular users of HAL, ambassadors share their experience, report on the needs of their community, and contribute to the development of the platform.
Thanks to their strong networks and excellent communication skills, they act as a link between scientific communities, institutions, and the CCSD team.
What for ?
HAL Ambassador Program is based on the firm belief that the development of a national open archive depends on its daily users.
It provides HAL with a better understanding of the needs, expectations and constraints of scientific communities, enabling it to co-develop useful, consistent services aligned with the principles of open science.
For ambassadors, the program offers a privileged space for exchanging ideas with the CCSD, sharing and developing skills, and recognising their commitment to open science practices. The CCSD team is also on hand to support them with platform-related projects.
Achievements
Since 2022, the HAL Ambassador Program has strengthened and structured the exchange of information between the CCSD and the scientific community.
Ambassadors have been involved in testing and reflection phases concerning the development of HAL, particularly with regard to the new interfaces on the site, training courses on depositing documents, and the new HAL Training space. Their feedback has informed development choices and improved services such as deposit suggestions, the redesign of the HAL CV and the data visualisation space, HAL Monitor.
The program’s annual seminars provide a valuable opportunity for ambassadors to share their experiences and discuss the use of HAL and the challenges of open science within their respective communities. These events provide an opportunity to produce co-developed resources by the CCSD and the ambassadors. Within this framework, the series of practical fact sheets Les Essentiels de HAL (HAL Essentials) was designed, as well as two scientific posters to accompany the dissemination of HAL’s uses and best practices.
Beyond contributing to the platform itself, some ambassadors have given talks in scientific or institutional contexts related to HAL and the contemporary challenges of open science. Examples include the Spring of Data and the annual session of the HAL Partners’ Assembly.
