In June 2025, the CCSD took part in two international events focused on open science: the Open Repositories (OR 2025) conference, held this year in Chicago, and the LIBER 2025 conference, which took place in Lausanne.

Organized annually, the Open Repositories conference, brings together participants from around the world involved in designing, developing, and managing data repositories. The CCSD was represented by Yannick Barborini, Nathalie Fargier, and Raphaël Tournoy. They delivered several presentations, including a workshop co-hosted with Software Heritage, focusing on issues surrounding the integration of software in data platforms.

Three key themes emerged during the 20th edition:

  • The impact of massive harvesting by AI robots, which raises technical challenges for open-access platforms.
  • A session dedicated to COAR Notify, highlighting ongoing global interoperability initiatives.
  • Informal technical exchanges with international partners concerning the funding model for HAL and Episciences, ongoing technical developments, and open science policies

Presentations by Yannick Barborini, Nathalie Fargier, and Raphaël Tournoy are available for review.

A few days after OR 2025, Raphaël Tournoy and Nathalie Fargier represented the CCSD at LIBER’s annual conference, held this year in Lausanne. Over 500 attendees participated, primarily from major European university and research libraries.

While artificial intelligence once again took center stage, other important topics included:

  • The role of libraries in climate policy,
  • Alternative economic models,
  • Research evaluation.

The event also provided opportunities to strengthen professional networks among librarians.

Higlighting the Episciences Model

During the conference, Raphaël Tournoy presented the overlay-journal model supported by the Episciences platform. This session served to:

  • Showcase Episciences’ innovative model—an academic, diamond-open-access publishing platform.
  • Boost awareness of the platform among European libraries and funders.
  • Continue discussions with SCOSS and other stakeholders regarding new support opportunities
The CCSD’s participation in OR 2025 and LIBER 2025 underscores its active role in shaping the future of open science—both technically and strategically. HAL and Episciences are highlighted as distinctive and inspiring models that draw international interest.
